Former Copper Queens head coach Charles Bwale says the four-nation tournament, set to feature Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho, gives the technical bench a chance to come up with a competitive side ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup (WAFCON).
Zambia will host the tournament from June 6-9 in Ndola, with head coach Nora Hauptle expected to take charge of the team.
In an interview, Bwale noted that the tournament features teams that should be used to help build confidence in the squad.
He observed that Zambia goes into the tournament as the highest-ranked among the four; hence, they should just use the match to work on tactics and combinations.
“The tournament doesn’t have big guns like Ghana, but the teams that have conformed are decent. Kenya is coming as one of the qualified teams for the upcoming WAFCON,” he said.
He added, “However, this is a chance for the technical bench to work on team tactics and instil some confidence in the players.”
Bwale is confident the Copper Queens have the quality needed to win the WAFCON, stating, “All that is needed is the right mindset and adequate preparations for the team to compete effectively.”
“We have been on the podium as the third-best team before; what can stop the same generation of players from going all the way this time and winning it? The talent is there,” he concluded.
