Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa says his team is ready to make a positive start to their CAF Champions League campaign.
The Zambian champions will face Rwandan side Al-Merrikh in the opening leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round on Saturday, September 5.
As part of their preparations, Power Dynamos played a friendly against TP Mazembe, with the two sides settling for a 1-1 draw.
Aba Yellow will be hoping to progress further in the competition this time around after being eliminated in the group stages during their previous campaign.
Speaking to the club’s media shortly before the team’s departure for Johannesburg, Mutapa said his charges are ready for the challenge.
“We have had friendlies; we played TP Mazembe for me. The last one was a good test as we go into the first leg of the CAF Champions League. An important assignment: the first game we need to get a positive result, and that makes you halfway through,” he noted.
“It is important we start on a high note or positive note. Football is played home and away in this CAF Champions League. As we go to Rwanda, we should be halfway through having a positive result,” he added.
The former Nkwazi boss also urged his players to remain determined and show courage from the start.
“The players for me have been working hard, but we have to go there be courageous and show intent from the word ‘go.’ Even as we come to the second round, we would have done halfway the job,” he noted.
The Zambian champions will now be hoping to secure a positive result away from home before the return leg.
