Why Nchanga Rangers FC has slammed Super League clubs

Shapi Shachinda, President of Nchanga Rangers Football Club, has issued a harsh warning to Super League clubs rumored to be interested in first-choice goalkeeper Victor Chabu.

Shachinda expresses his dismay at the tactics used by Super League teams to entice the goalie. He has referred to these efforts as sabotage and stated that the club will take action to put an end to them.

“The Club ExCo is dismayed with the continuous destabilization of Nchanga Rangers being perpetrated by some super division clubs currently tapping team captain Victor Chabu,” Shachinda said.

“We consider overtures to prize away our club captain in the January window as acts of sabotage, which shall be met with an equal measure of toughness by Brave Rangers.”

The club president states that, as much as Nchanga Rangers may not offer huge wages to its players compared to some ‘big’ Super League clubs, the Chingola-based side is capable of taking care of its players within its budget.

“Our club cannot be equaled to the so-called money clubs of our local football, but we have some sound values in so far as taking care of our players is concerned,” he stated.

Shachinda claimed that no Super League club is capable of meeting Chabu’s release clause.

“Victor is very happy at Nchanga Stadium… Even if we were to lose our track of thinking and decide to put Victor on the market, who would afford his valuation?” he wondered.

In similar circumstances, Nchanga Rangers lost one of their most valued players, Mathews Chabala, following attempts by ZESCO United to lure the player before a deal was agreed between the two clubs.

“I am extremely worried for Zambian football.” -Shachinda

Shachinda has slammed Super League clubs for failing to nurture talent, adding that is the reason why Zambia is struggling at the national team level.

“I am extremely worried for Zambian football if half a dozen clubs would be seeking the signature of one player half of the season. It tells us that the so-called ‘big clubs’ of our time do not have structured management systems to nurture raw talent,” he said.

“This speaks to some of the challenges we face with quality at the national level.”

The club president has indicated that Chabu is not for sale in the January transfer period.

“I want to warn those who are secretly tapping Victor that our club reserves the right to protect its interests and will take appropriate measures… We’re neither a breeding ground nor a tapping point. We are not a selling club at all,” Shachinda stated.

Victor Chabu is a potential custodian for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in 2023, having previously deputised for Toaster Nsabata and Lawrence Mulenga in the Chipolopolo set-up.
