Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner has urged the club’s supporters to turn out in numbers and create an intimidating atmosphere for Red Arrows, saying the Zambian side enjoyed similar backing during the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie in Ndola last weekend.
Amakhosi are seeking to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit when the two teams meet in the second leg of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday.
With qualification for the group stage at stake, Leaner believes a strong turnout from the club’s supporters could provide the home side with the atmosphere and backing needed to secure victory.
“This game is very important for the Club. Our goal is to advance to the group stage. We are a big team and we are in a big competition. We need our fans out in number to support us because in Zambia their fans made it a bit of an ‘intimidating’ environment, so we need our brilliant fans to reciprocate for the whole 90 minutes because it won’t be easy and our fans are our 12th man who help us a lot to get over the line on the field,” Leaner told the club’s website.
A 1-0 victory for Kaizer Chiefs would level the aggregate score at 1-1 and take the tie into extra time, with a penalty shootout possible if the scores remain level. A 2-0 win would see Amakhosi advance with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

However, Red Arrows’ ability to score away from home could complicate the hosts’ task, as Chiefs would need to win by a two-goal margin if the Zambian side find the net, assuming the competition’s away-goals rule applies.
Leaner said the team’s immediate priority was to score while remaining defensively solid.
“It’s obvious, but our first task is to get one goal and then go for another one, as well as focus on keeping a clean sheet,” Leaner added.
He said Kaizer Chiefs had reviewed their performance in the first leg and identified areas they could exploit in the return fixture.
“We have analysed where we went wrong in Zambia and had a look at how they played and where we might capitalise on some of their weaknesses, so we believe we can succeed on Friday,” he added.
Red Arrows, meanwhile, are aiming to reach the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in their history and will look to protect their advantage in Durban to achieve that milestone.
