At Lusaka’s Sunset Stadium on Sunday, Red Arrows defeated Zanaco Football Club 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Ebengo Ciel.
log leaders Zesco United 1-1 drew against Forest Rangers in a Match Week 15 fixture, and that gave Red Arrows a chance to reduce the gap.
Before kickoff, there was a moment of silence to remember Red Arrows executive member and club official John Simwanda, who lost his life in a car accident last night.
Both teams were on the attack in the first half, with Charles Zulu of Zanaco and James Chamanga of the Arrows nearly opening the scoreline. A win would have placed either team second on the log.
After a tense first half that ended in a scoreless draw at halftime, Charles Zulu’s penalty kick in the 53rd minute gave the home team the advantage.
With just one victory in their previous six games, the Airmen were in dire need of an equalizer and had a chance in the 66th minute but Allasane Diarra missed a seater from a cross by Benedict Chapeshi.
Pressure would finally pay off as Diarra made up for his missed opportunity as he assisted Paul Katema who headed in an equalizer in the 80th minute.
After the goal, Arrows’ fans became very emotional. Ciel Ebengo, a replacement, scored the second goal with another Diarra assist.
Arrows are now third on the log, three points behind log leaders Zesco United, after today’s victory at Sunset.
