Zesco United striker Lazarous Kambole has set his sights on winning the 2023/24 Super League title.
Kambole rescued a point for the 9-times Super League winners in their 1-1 draw against Forest Rangers in the Ndola derby at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
The striker, who scored his third goal of the season, reveals that his focus this season is on helping Zesco United win the title.
“My target is to help the team win the league and qualify for the CAF Champions League,” Kambole said.
But on Saturday, Zesco United’s rivals from across town, Forest Rangers, ended their winning streak.
Fole Malembe took the lead through a well taken Benson Kolala freekick, leaving Zesco United with all to fight with second half substitute Kambole equalizing in the 74th minute.
Kambole indicated that the team was aiming for a win especially that it was a home match. He, however, notes that it was a tough match though the target was to secure the ABSA Cup slot.
“It was difficult game and they played, taking the chance they created,” he said. “Derbies are very difficult but the fact that we were playing home, we wanted three points.”
Meanwhile, ZESCO assistant Coach Tenant Chilumba said the team wanted all three points, but it was a difficult derby.
“We wanted a win though are not disappointed we got a point. It was difficult game. We want to play in the Absa [Cup] as one of our targets. The other target is to win the league,” Chilumba said.
Chipepo regrets missed opportunities.
However, Forest Rangers head Coach Mwenya Chipepo expressed mixed emotions following the 1-1 draw.
“We are very disappointed at the same time we are happy because to pick a point away from home is not especially that we are playing Zesco United, they are topping the log,” Chipepo said.
“We were leading 1-0; we were careless because when you look at the chances, we missed we would have beaten Zesco today,” he stated.
