MTN Super League-winning goalkeeper Willard Mwanza has been named in the 25-member provisional squad preparing for upcoming international friendlies against Sudan and Tunisia.
The Chipolopolo boys are set to face Sudan on June 6. That will be followed by a clash against Tunisia four days later, in a pair of back-to-back friendlies.
The former Konkola Blades shot-stopper was instrumental for the Kitwe giants, helping them clinch the league title and qualify for the CAF Champions League.
Mwanza featured in 19 matches, conceding just 8 goals. He kept 11 clean sheets—one of the best records in the league in the just-ended season.
His outstanding performances have seen him replace clubmate Lawrence Mulenga, who has been left out of the squad.
Speaking to BolaNews in an exclusive interview, Mwanza said it’s time for him to shine on the big stage.
“I am happy to be called to the national team. This means that my impressive form at power has payed off and it’s a sign that I should continue working hard. I‘m not surprised with the call-up; I was expecting it. I really did well with my team and I’m now looking forward to impressing with the national team,” he said.
“I‘ve been to the National team before and this time around am hopeful of a better performance. I will make sure I replicate my club performance with the national team,” added Mwanza.
