Benni McCarthy reveals desire to coach Kaizer Chiefs

“It’s a great club. It’s a club that I’ll always have a lot of love for. Because it’s my local team—my team in South Africa" McCarthy said.

Kaizer Chiefs

Should the Kaizer Chiefs make an approach, Benni McCarthy has stated that he would be open to coaching one of the PSL’s biggest teams.

McCarthy called Amakhosi, who placed tenth in the 2023–24 season, one of football’s greatest “institutions.”

Chiefs have previously stated that they wish to find a long-term replacement for Molefi Ntseki. Chiefs lost their final game 2-0 to the Cape Town Spurs, who had already been demoted.

In 2024, Amakhosi won just two of their 14 games under interim coach Cavin Johnson, set to resign.

“Not many coaches in the world say no to institutions. Manchester United is an institution. Real Madrid is an institution. Bayern Munich is also an institution,” McCarthy said on Radio 947.

“It’s a great club. It’s a club that I’ll always have a lot of love for. Because it’s my local team—my team in South Africa—that I supported as a kid. I loved the Black and Gold, everything Kaizer Chiefs.”

McCarthy’s Manchester United two-year contract will expire at the end of June. The club has yet to make a decision on the South African coach who has experience coaching AmaZulu and Cape Town City in the PSL.

As such, McCarthy, who helped United win the Carabao Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup this season, is not ruling out the possibility of coaching Kaizer Chiefs.

“If the opportunity arises or anything, of course you would have to sit down and think about it because, like I said, you don’t say no to institutions.”

While Kaizer Chiefs’ luck has run out, Mamelodi Sundowns have continued dominating the South Africa Premier Soccer League.
