Speaking after Simba SC’s 1-0 victory over Azam FC in the 2025-26 CRDB Bank Federation Cup final, Clatous Chota Chama revealed how delighted he was to win the trophy after falling short in the NBC Premier League title race against rivals Yanga SC.
At the Gombani Stadium on Saturday, Simba battled it out with Azam FC in the Federation Cup final as both sides aimed to to finish on a high.
Azam FC’s Yayha Zaydi turned Ellie Mpanzu’s cross into his own net in the 62nd minute following a poor clearance. The tightly contested affair ended in Simba’s favor as they secured a narrow win.
Simba ended Yanga’s four-year winning streak of the competition and equaled their record seven Tanzanian FA Cup triumphs.
“The Target Was To Win” – Chama.
Chama, contributed three goals and an assist on Simba’s way to the title.
“First of all, we thank God. We finished the match well, although I think some players picked up serious injuries. The game was very competitive, and I think we at Simba know what it means to be a big team.”
“In matches like these, I always play to win and lift the trophy. We followed the coach’s instructions. We fought together as a team, and we succeeded. The target was to win the championship, and, ultimately, we did it,” the Chipolopolo midfielder added.
Simba lost the Tanzanian Premier League title to rivals Yanga by only two points. They also endured an abysmal campaign in the CAF Champions League, finishing bottom of the group.
Chama, who joined Simba SC mid-season from Singida Black Stars, reflected on the campaign, stating, “The goal of any team at the beginning of the season is to win a championship, and I believe we succeeded at that. We missed out on the CAF Champions League and the Tanzanian Premier League titles. But we thank God that at least we finished the season with two trophies: the Muungano Cup and the Federation Cup.”
Chama had an excellent season with Singida Black Stars and Simba SC, winning the Kagame Cup earlier in the season with the former.
He registered 16 goals and 12 assists in 42 matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign. Chama’s goal tally was only bettered by Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s Chanka Zimba (19) and Red Arrows FC’s Albert Kangwanda (17) among Chipolopolo players.
