Mighty Wanderers will write to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to consider changing a match commissioner who will take charge during their Champions League preliminary round first leg against Simba SC of Tanzania.
The two sides will clash in the first leg at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on September 6 before a second leg match at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on September 13.
Wanderers have problems with the match commissioner from Zanzibar, Mbarouk Suleiman Othman, who, according to them, can favor their opponent Simba SC.
Wanderers’ director of football, David Kanyenda, said, “Although Zanzibar is considered an independent state, it is still part of Tanzania, and the match commissioner could easily side with Simba.”
“We want to make it clear in case something happens during the match,” stated Kanyenda.
“We will inform CAF about our concern, and we will follow their direction“
Asked what Wanderers will do if CAF does not tolerate their call, Kanyenda said Wanderers are ready and will still play the match, but they will still do their part.
“We are ready to play, but we think it may be improper that we should have a match commissioner from Zanzibar,” he said.
CAF on Monday appointed a Ghanaian referee, Charles Bulu, to officiate the Champions League preliminary round first-leg clash between Mighty Wanderers and Simba SC.
Bulu’s assistants are Seth Abletor and Richard Kweku Nartey from Ghana and the fourth official, Grema Mohammed, from Nigeria.
