Red Arrows Football Club head coach Chisi Mbewe has warned that his team risks finishing the 2024-25 MTN Super League season without a trophy if they don’t improve their scoring rate in the remaining matches.

The defending Super League champions are currently trailing joint leaders Power Dynamos and Zesco United by five points after a goalless draw with Nkwazi on Saturday in a Week 26 fixture.

Last season, Mbewe’s side secured the Absa Cup, the CECAFA Kagame Cup, and the Zambian Charity Shield, thanks in part to their potent attacking force. However, Mbewe expressed concern over his team’s current struggle to score, with only 24 goals netted throughout the season.

“I think of late it has been difficult for us to score goals,” Mbewe said. “Of late, it has been different for us, and I think we just need to continue encouraging the team, reminding them of the reason why we won the league and Absa Cup, because we were scoring goals; it’s a bit worrisome, and we just need to work extra hard and make sure that we improve on our scoring.”

Mbewe still optmistic

Despite the five-point gap, Mbewe remains optimistic about his team’s title chances, emphasizing that their success will depend on their ability to find the back of the net.

“It’s a point result for us; we’re not giving up; we keep fighting until the end. I think the most important thing for us is we go back into training; we work on the areas where we did not do well,” he explained.

Mbewe added, “We just need to build the confidence of the players and remind them how important scoring goals is because if you don’t score, you drop points or you lose the game. If we have to defend the league, we just need to improve in the remaining eight games in scoring goals.”

So far this season, Red Arrows have recorded 11 wins, 10 draws, and 5 losses.
