Following a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 qualifier yesterday, Malawi’s head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, has requested more time to build his team.
Pasuwa, who was in charge for his first match as Malawi’s men’s football team coach, expressed satisfaction with the victory but noted areas that need improvement ahead of the second-leg match on Saturday.
“I am happy with the result, but of course, I am not fully satisfied yet because the boys are off-season, while our opponents’ league is still ongoing. Our fitness levels are still low, but defensively we did well. We caught them on the counter and scored goals,” said Pasuwa.

He added, “This is just step one in rebuilding the team. In football, you can’t develop a player in a week or even four weeks. That’s why we’re given a six-week preseason to prepare them.”
Malawi scored in each half through Silver Strikers players Binwell Katinji and Zebron Kalima.
Despite the match being played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi, the home team was technically playing away, as Comoros had requested to use the stadium as their home ground.
The return leg will take place on Saturday at the same venue, with Malawi now playing at home. The winner will face either South Africa or Egypt, who played to a 1-1 draw yesterday in their first leg.
