Kansanshi Dynamos assistant coach Dennis Makinka remains optimistic about the team’s chances of finishing in the top ten at the end of the season.
The Mabanga Boys surrendered a 1–0 lead to draw 1–1 against Mines United on Wednesday afternoon at Railway Stadium in Kabwe in a Week 26 MTN Super League match.
The home side scored in stoppage time through Nicholas Chisempele to cancel out a Bebe Musangala strike for Kansanshi Dynamos that came in the ninth minute.
Reacting to the draw, which leaves the team two points above the relegation zone, Makinka noted that it was worrying for the side to keep failing to hold on to slender leads.
“A lapse in concentration, I think, towards the end of the game, especially after we got that red card. But obviously not an excuse, because I thought we could have done better,” he stated. “Mines only had one route now; they were just trying to put that ball behind the defence. We could have done better, but I thought we didn’t communicate well; we only had a few seconds remaining before the end of the game.”
Makinka called for mental strength among the players to see out matches, stating, “We are not bad where we are sitting; we just need to change the mindset. We need to start believing that wherever we go we can pick maximum points.”
He also revealed that the international break will give his players an opportunity to recover from fatigue as the technical bench strategises on their target.
“We’ll give them a few days off, three days, four days. We see how they will come back, because we’ve played games back to back, plus travelling; you know, Solwezi is very far. We went to Choma, we went back to Solwezi, and we went to Lusaka. So even just travelling also gives fatigue,” said Makinka.
“So we need to rest them for a few days, then regroup, and try to pick maximum points. And we still believe that we can still finish in the top ten.”
