Gamphani Lungu says he is grateful for the warm welcome he has received at South African club Orlando Pirates after being named the club’s Player of the Month for August.
Lungu, who recently joined the Buccaneers, has made an impressive start to life at the club, scoring three goals and providing one assist in six games to earn the monthly accolade.
The Chipolopolo international said the award is a good start to his new chapter as he looks to settle into the team and continue improving.
“Been quiet, but definitely not idle. Grateful to God for this opportunity and for the gift to do what I love.
“The welcome from the team has been amazing, and the support from the Pirates family has been felt from day one. I’m extremely grateful,” Lungu said in a post on social media.
The forward said he is focused on working hard, learning, competing, and enjoying his football.
“I’m here to work, learn, grow, compete and, most importantly, enjoy the game. The rest, I’ll let the football speak for itself,” he said.
Lungu described the Player of the Month award as a positive beginning and pledged to maintain his momentum.
“Player of the Month — August. A good start. We keep going,” he said.
Lungu is currently recovering from an injury but remains a strong favourite to make the squad that Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina will name for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
