Former Zambia international striker Jonas Sakuwaha has urged Zambians to rally behind his former club Al-Merrikh of Sudan when they face Power Dynamos on Saturday in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Sakuwaha, who previously played for the Sudanese giants, expressed his gratitude after being invited to be with the team ahead of their crucial encounter.
“Although I am Zambian, I think Merrikh has grown me up, and thank you so much for inviting me to be with the team. It means a lot to me,” he told Merrikh’s media in Ndola.
“I pray all the fans in Zambia, those that have been with me, to come and support Merrikh for Saturday’s game against Power.”
Sakuwaha’s appeal comes as Al-Merrikh prepares to take on Zambian champions Power Dynamos, with the match expected to attract significant attention from football fans in Zambia.
The former Chipolopolo striker’s strong connection with Al-Merrikh has led him to call on his former supporters in Zambia to back the Sudanese side in the encounter.
Merrikh defeated Power Dynamos 1-0 in the first leg and will be hoping to maintain their aggregate lead and advance to the next round of the Champions League.
