Green Buffaloes head coach Aggrey Chiyangi stressed the importance of securing all three points against Mufulira Wanderers as his side edged a narrow 1-0 victory to strengthen their push up the log.

He also highlighted that the team has shown significant improvement since he took over, saying, “there is a lot of improvement in the team, the way I found the team and the way we are going to end is different. There are a lot of positives in the players and also in the team itself.”

He added that further work is needed for the team to compete effectively, stating, “we have to improve this team so that it’s start to compete effectively.”

Golden Mashata’s close-range finish proved decisive, as Green Buffaloes capitalised on home advantage after starting strongly and taking the lead early through sustained pressure on the visitors.

Mufulira Wanderers had chances of their own after the break, with Patson Kwataine seeing an effort ruled out for offside, but struggled to break down a disciplined Buffaloes defence in a cagey second half.

Despite the defeat, Wanderers coach Lameck Banda described the result as disappointing but remained optimistic, saying, “this is work in progress. We will still come back strong next time.”

He insisted his side remain on course to achieve their season objectives, adding, “the overall performance has been fantastic, though I think we could have done far much better.”

Banda also pointed to missed opportunities in front of goal, stating, “We have been having games where we dominated, but the scoring aspect is what has let us down; we could have done far much better than this.”

The match also saw tense moments over refereeing decisions, with Banda remarking, “I cannot say much, I think everyone saw what happened, and we can make our own conclusions.”

With only two games remaining, Banda maintained that Wanderers still have a chance to finish in the top four, saying, “Our objectives were to finish in the top four and we still have that chance.”

The result confirms Green Buffaloes’ survival, while Wanderers must win their remaining fixtures to keep their top-four hopes alive.
