Chisi Mbewe, Red Arrows coach says the departure of Albert Kangwanda from his side will not affect the army sponsored side ahead of the new season.
Kangwanda won last year’s Player of the season award.
He left Nkoloma Stadium in the current transfer window for pastures anew in the Tanzanian Premier League, where he joined Young Africans.
The Chipolopolo striker enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, scoring 17 goals in 33 matches across all competitions, including 12 in the MTN Super League.
He has also continued his fine form at Young Africans.
But with Arrows targeting the league title and a place in the Confederation Cup group stage, Mbewe insists his side has enough firepower to cope with Kangwanda’s absence.
“The departure of Kangwanda does not really [affect us]; yes, we will miss him, and I think we have worked on it. We have a couple of new players that we have recruited into the team; they are settling well, and they settle, and we will start seeing goals coming,” Mbewe told reporters on Friday.
Meanwhile, striker Sadam Phiri echoed his coach’s sentiments, saying Arrows have enough players capable of filling the void left by Kangwanda.
“Kangwanda did a good job last season, but for our team anyone can score, and every season I think we find players that can do that; we find goal scorers, we find goal poachers, so I don’t think it is going to be difficult; we just need to get started,” Phiri said.
