Why Nsabata was dropped from match day squad

Nsabanta was neither in the starting line up nor the substitutes bench against Ivory Coast.

Toaster Nsabata who was reportedly released by South African side, Sekhukhune United was dropped from the Zambia National Team squad that beat Ivory Coast 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Nsabata was replaced by Power Dynamos league-winning goalkeeper, Lawrence Mulenga who kept a clean sheet and made decent saves to send Zambia to AFCON.

Earlier this month when he addressed the media coach Avram Grant, revealed that it was a “difficult decision” to summon Nsabanta for the Ivory Coast game.

“Toaster is not playing. It was not an easy decision to call him to the national team,” Grant told journalists at the football house.

In the first-leg match against Lesotho at Levy Mwanawansa stadium in March, Nsabanta was heavily criticized for a blunder he made when he misread the ball movement, allowing Lesotho to score from a long-range free kick to put the visitors ahead early in the game.

Despite the backlash from fans, he went on to keep a clean sheet away to Lesotho in a match that Zambia won 0-2.

Since then, the shot-stopper did not play a single match for his club. Several reports suggested that he was released by the South African club.

Nsabanta, however, did not make the squad list for the match against Ivory Coast as he was not appearing on the substitute bench.

FAZ tells BolaNews that he was dropped today due to an injury.
