Power Dynamos goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga has been dropped from the 19-man squad traveling to Moscow for the international friendly game against Russia on March 25, 2025, after initially being called.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) revealed the squad for the match, which will serve as preparation for Zambia, as they are not participating in the March round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers due to Eritrea’s withdrawal and Congo Brazzaville’s suspension by FIFA.
Mulenga, initially called up, was later excluded from the squad at the last minute. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has featured in fewer than 15 matches for Power Dynamos this season as he has faced stiff competition from teammate Willard Mwanza.
“I am not part of the national team squad; I was called but was then dropped at the last minute, and the reason given was that I have not been playing games at the club, which I understand,” Mulenga said.
“It’s just a phase that I am passing through, am sure. I will continue working hard and pushing; I am confident I will soon bounce back to my position. I wish the three goalkeepers who have been called all the best, and I hope they put in their best,” he added.
In goal, Avram Grant will rely on Toaster Nsabata (Zesco United), Charles Kalumba (Red Arrows), and Victor Chabu (Nchanga Rangers), who have been selected.
