Ex–Copper Queens player and assistant coach Kape Saili, has branded the United States of America (USA) as a good destination for Zambian talent.
In the last year, Zambian players have been flocking to the USA. It all started with Rachael Kundananji’s move to Bay FC, then Barbra Banda followed to Orlando Pride.
As of today, there are five Zambian players affiliated with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) sides, with Pride having the bulk of them, three in Banda, Prisca Chilufya, and Grace Chanda.
The latest export to the USA is teenage striker Fridah Mukoma, who was signed by Kansas City Current on a four–year deal from Super League side Ndola Girls at an undisclosed fee.
Mukoma has since been loaned to Chinese side Beijing Jingtan.
Saili has told Bolanews that it is great to see the number of Zambian players increasing in a major league like the NWSL.
“It is that standard of football everywhere; your national team is as good as the league where your players are playing,” she said. “So it is important to have our players playing the big leagues.”
Saili urged the players to continue being good ambassadors of Zambia.
“Every player playing abroad is an ambassador of Zambia; they are showing the world what immense talent that we have; my message is that everyone should work hard and represent us well,” she said.
On Mukoma, she said the player will flourish.
“She has shown that she is a great talent; she is young, which means there is still room to learn, so I have no doubt that she will show the world what she is able to do when given a chance,” Saili said.
