The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) paid US$277,222.99 (approximately K6.3 million) to terminate former Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant’s contract, the association revealed during its reconvened annual general meeting (AGM) in Lusaka on Wednesday.

FAZ Head of Finance, Owen Buntele, said the settlement was funded through the FIFA Forward project.

The association also generated a total of US$870,000 (around K20 million) from qualifying for various tournaments this year, including US$500,000 from AFCON, US$200,000 from CHAN, US$100,000 from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), US$50,000 from the U-20 men’s AFCON, and US$20,000 from U-17 AFCON.

However, FAZ incurred over K32 million in expenditure during the period under review. According to Buntele, the funds were spent on national team programmes, including the U-17 boys’ and girls’ World Cup campaigns, the CHAN tournament, the COSAFA Senior Women’s Championship, salaries for the senior women’s national team, and procurement of kits for all national teams.
