According to Hellen Chanda, the Copper Queens are determined to make amends for their disappointing performance at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Zambia is in Group C alongside record champions Nigeria, Egypt, and debutants Malawi.

Copper Queens head coach, Nora Häuptle’s lasses set to open their campaign against Egypt.

The 2022 bronze winners, will have an international training camp in Algeria scheduled to begin on July 12. Zambia will face Algeria in two international friendly matches on July 19 and July 22.

Chanda, who plays for Eastern Flames in Saudi Arabia, said the players are fully aware of the importance of the tournament. The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I’m very happy to be back after a long time. The preparation is going so well; everyone is putting in their best, everyone is pushing. Of course, we know it’s a big tournament, so we want the best from us,” Chanda said.

The midfielder believes the squad has another opportunity to prove itself on the continental stage.

“I think the chance has come to us again, so it’s our time to prove ourselves and do our best. Especially the last couple of days, we didn’t do our best, but this time we just have to,” she said.

Chanda acknowledged the competitive spirit within the squad, saying every player is working hard to earn a place in the team.

She promised that the Copper Queens would give everything to achieve success.

“We say thank you for your support. Continue supporting us”.
