Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa says his side has only themselves to blame after they were held to a 1–1 draw by relegation-threatened FC Leopards on Wednesday.

Power, who are defending champions, missed out on the chance to go joint second with in-form Zanaco, having come from behind to draw 1-1.

In Mutapa’s words, it was two points dropped for his side, who went into the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Pyramids FC of Egypt in the Champions League.

Simon Nkandu gave Leopards the lead in the 9th minute. It took Power 36 minutes to draw level through Malawian midfielder Chifundo Mphasi.

Mutapa expressed disappointment with the result, insisting that champions should not be dropping points against teams fighting for survival.

“We have dropped two points,” he said. “Champions, playing a team which is in the relegation [zone], [we] should have picked maximum points… disappointed we didn’t pick maximum points.”

Mutapa was disappointed with the state of the pitch at President Stadium.

“We couldn’t play our game. The pitch, of course, is a factor, but the others have come here and won. So we are not going to blame the pitch; we blame ourselves for dropping two points.”

Asked whether his players followed instructions, the coach gave a blunt assessment of the match flow.

“Football is football — you play, you attack, you defend. So we attack, we score one, we concede one,” he said.

With the draw slowing Power’s momentum in the title race, Mutapa said the team must quickly reset.

“We move on. We have another game over the weekend, so we prepare; we are playing at home,” he added.
