EXCLUSIVE: Mbesuma reveals focus area for Chipolopolo boys technical bench

A new technical bench was named to take over from Former Ghana head coach, Avram Grant, who mutually separated with the Zambian FA.

Collins Mbesuma has challenged the new Chipolopolo boys’ technical bench to openly share ideas and not leave everything to the head coach to work alone.

Those appointed includes head coach Moses Sichone, assisted by Andrew Sinkala, Perry Mutapa serving as second assistant, Kennedy Mweene as goalkeepers coach.

Others are Noel Mwandila as strikers coach with another AfCON winner, Joseph Musonda serving as physical trainer.

The first major task for the new technical bench is next month’s Morocco 2025 AfCON tournament.

However, Mbesuma, the 2012 AfCON winner, who also expressed interest in the national team coaching job, urged the new technical bench to embrace teamwork to achieve one goal.

“I think it’s good to give an opportunity to the local coaches. I can only wish them all the best, but my concern after watching the South Africa game is we need to select coaches who can challenge each other, not just say yes to everything,” Mbesuma told Bolanews in an exclusive interview.

“If we want the national team to grow, we need coaches who will challenge each other,” added Mbesuma.

“So the new technical bench that has been appointed should be able to challenge each other and not just agree to everything being said by the head coach—that way we will improve as a national team,” emphasized Mbesuma.

Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo boys played two international friendly matches against Bafana Bafana and Angola, losing both matches, 3-1 and 3-2 respectively.

Zambia is in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Mali, and Comoros.
