Former Zambia midfielder and 2012 AFCON winner Noah Chivuta has welcomed the forthcoming National Football Indaba, describing it as a vital platform for charting a new direction for Zambian football.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, working with the National Sports Council of Zambia and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), will host the two-day gathering from 1 to 2 December 2025 to deliberate on long-standing structural issues affecting the game.

The indaba will discuss youth development, governance, talent identification, infrastructure investment, football administration.

In an interview, Chivuta stressed that the indada will allow different voices to be heard.

“You know, this kind of indaba is very, very good, at least at involving people from outside,” he said. “It’s even good for the government or the people in charge of this meeting to hear the views of people from a different perspective, how they see the game and its growth.”

Chivuta expects implementation of the ideas raised during the meeting.

“The important thing is to see how they should implement—how to improve our game ” he said.

“Very good initiative” – Chivuta.

The former midfielder urged authorities to make the indaba a continuous process rather than a one-off event.

“It shouldn’t just end on the meeting. They must have these kinds of indabas two or three times a year—to catch up and to ask, “Last time we spoke about this, what did we do about it?” Are we moving forward or backwards?”

Chivuta added that consistent engagement of football experts would help ensure Zambia charts a clear path for football development.

“It’s a very good initiative if we are to work together. Everyone involved in football must know where we’re getting it wrong and how to move forward,” he said.
