Nchimunya Mweetwa, a former Zambia international striker, believes it will be difficult for any striker to equal or surpass Moses Shumah’s impressive 21-goal tally during the upcoming transitional MTN Super League season.
Shumah, who finished as the league’s top scorer last season, has joined South African Premiership side AmaZulu FC after playing a key role in helping the Kitwe giants, Power Dynamos successfully defend super league title.
Speaking in an interview with Bola News, Mweetwa said the shortened nature of the transitional league makes such a scoring feat highly unlikely.
“We are playing the transition league. It’s only three months, so it’s a big ask for a striker to score 21 goals,” Mweetwa said.
The Zesco United and Napsa Stars former striker also dismissed suggestions that Shumah’s departure leaves a challenge for local forwards, insisting every player has their own journey and should focus on self-improvement.
“There is no challenge. Everyone has his own path. All we can do is encourage the strikers to train extra hard and do more finishing exercises,” he added.
He states that long-term success in football is built on strong foundations rather than individual performances.
“It’s about strategy, structure and systems, and sponsorship that brings structure and systems,” Mweetwa said.
