Patson Daka scored and provided an assist on his unofficial debut for new club Hamburger SV on Saturday as they recorded a 3-1 pre-season victory over German second-tier side Heidenheim.

The Chipolopolo striker enjoyed a dream start to life at Hamburger SV, winning a penalty in the 36th minute, setting up Rayan Philippe for Hamburg’s second goal in the 49th minute, before getting on the scoresheet himself eight minutes later to cap an impressive first outing.

Reacting after the match, Daka, who was unveiled three days ago, said it felt good to be back playing football after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“It was good. It was tough. It’s been long since I played football,” he said after the match. “I think it was a good start.”

He added: “Like I said earlier, this team, the guys, they’re amazing. They made me feel at home, so it didn’t really feel like I’ve been here just, like, for a few days. But it feels like I’ve been here for a long time.”

Speaking about his personal targets, Daka insisted the team’s success remains his main priority.

“For me, it’s, what’s important is the team. I always try to do my best for the team in every way possible. It’s not about me, it’s about the team.

“If I can contribute in assisting or every way that I can. I’m a striker, I want to get on the scoresheet. But like I said, I want to help in every way that I can, and I’m glad that not a bad start. Hopefully we can build on this.”

Hamburger SV’s next pre-season friendly will be against Everton on August 1, 2026, as they continue preparations for the 2026/27 season.
