The Tanzanian government has given the Young Africans football club a boost ahead of their encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League Quarterfinal.

Yanga FC will host South Africa’s Sundowns in the first leg quarter final match on the 30th of March 2024.

According to local media, the Daily News Tanzanian Sports Minister Damas Ndumbaro has issued strict guidelines.

“Any person wearing Sundown’s t-shirt will have to show a South African passport to be allowed to enter the Stadium,” he stated.

Ndumbaro added that even President Samia Suluhu Hassan is ready to support these teams to reach far in the CAF Champions League. “She has doubled her goal motivation package from TSH 5 million to TSH 10 million,” he said.

In their history, Yanga has never advanced past the first round of the CAF Champions League since the 1969–70 season.

Since winning the tournament in 2016, Sundowns has advanced to the last eight aiming to secure a second star.

In the 2022–2023 campaign, Wydad Casablanca, who Al Ahly defeated in the finals eliminated Sundowns in the round of four.
