Creck Sporting Club have contested the Football Association of Malawi (FAM)’s ruling that sanctioned three of their players for assaulting FCB Nyasa Big Bullets players during an Airtel Top 8 match.

The incident occurred during the April 26, 2025 fixture at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe, where Creck players—defenders Miracle Gabeya and Hadji Wali, along with striker George Chaomba—were involved in off-the-ball altercations.

FAM handed Chaomba a two-match suspension across all competitions, along with a straight red card, both effective immediately. He was found guilty of elbowing Bullets’ Henry Chiwaya in an off-ball incident.

Wali received a four-match ban and a red card, also effective immediately, for stepping on the hand and leg of Bullets’ Maxwell Phodo while he was lying on the ground.

Gabeya was issued a three-match ban across all competitions and a straight red card for stepping on the hand of Bullets’ Babatunde Adepoju in another off-ball incident.

Creck fined MWK1 million

In addition to the player sanctions, Creck has been fined MWK1 million for failing to take necessary precautions to prevent the misconduct, a violation of Articles 23.3 and 23.4 of the 2025 Airtel Top 8 Rules and Regulations, read together with Article 14.1(l) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

However, the club is disputing the ruling and seeking clarification from the association on several matters.

“We have been handed two determinations, the first one stating that the bans should apply to the Airtel Top 8 then the other one extending the bans to other competitions. So, we don’t know where the second determination is coming from and who is fining us? The same FAM or is there someone else?” wondered Creck’s Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Seleman.

He further stated: “If anything, there should be a review because materially and legally, this is wrong unless there is a re-hearing.”

The match ended 1-0 on aggregate in favour of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who advanced to the semifinals.
