Drama in Malawi during the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership launch as the match failed to take place on Saturday following the wrangle between league runners Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
Disagreements started in the week when FAM condemned the venue to host the launch match, Kamuzu Stadium, due to a number of factors.
FAM requested the ministry of sports, to fix shortcomings like toilets and benches before hosting league matches.
However, Sulom ignored that and instead brought in some mobile toilets calling on FAM to inspect the stadium on Saturday.
Sulom proceeded in scheduling the match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United to launch the 2026 season despite warning from FAM.
The match set for 2.30pm failed to kick off as referees were not at the stadium. Match called off by 3.30pm.
Fans were left disappointed including sports minister Alfred Gangata, FAM and Sulom presidents Fleetwood Haiya and Gilbert Mitawa.
It is not clear what will happen to the fans that paid and to the match as all officials were not available to comment as they left the stadium.
