Who said Mighty Wanderers will never win the Charity Shield? And who said FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will never lose the Charity Shield?

Wanderers have won the Charity Shield for the first time since its inception—beating their old rivals Bullets who have lost the trophy for the first time in history.

Since the Charity Shield was launched in 2018, Bullets have lifted the trophy five times.

Last year it was Silver Strikers who won it over Wanderers and Bullets failed to qualify as they failed to win the league and a National Cup.

Wanderers wanted to break Bullets’ dominance last year but failed against Silver Strikers. A second chance for Wanderers came this year after they won the league. They met Bullets on Saturday afternoon at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe where they were victorious.

In the 11th minute, Wanderers, failed to convert a penalty.

In the second half, Wanderers found the back of the net after Sama Thierry headed home a rebound to give the blue side a lead.

The result means that Bullets have failed to win, not even to score past Wanderers in four games—two league games, an FDH Bank Cup match and Saturday’s match.

Bullets coach Gilbert Chirwa accepted defeat saying it was a very close game as they created chances but failed to utilize them. “We will go back and talk to the boys, we have room for improvement,” he said.

Wanderers assistant coach MacDonald Nginde Mtetemera was a happy man to have won the Charity Shield saying it all happened because they made some tactical changes which helped the team to keep pressing.
