Sekhukhune United defeated newly promoted Magesi Football Club in the South African Premier Soccer League on September 18, and former Power Dynamos striker Andy Boyeli began his scoring account for the team.
The Congolese attacker was making his Babina Noko debut after sitting out last Saturday’s away loss to Angolan side Lunda Sul in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.
The 23-year-old came close to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute from a corner kick, but his headed effort grazed over the bar. Shortly he was also involved in another attack that went begging.
Boyeli’s excellent anticipation paid off in the 44th minute as he headed in a cross from Vusumzi Mncube to give the home team the lead.
Moments late, he set up Thabang Monari, whose strike hit the crossbar to deny him the chance to extend the home team’s lead before the halftime break.
The second half had fewer chances from both sides, with Sekhukhune United eventually collecting their first three points of the season.
Boyeli left the Zambian Super League with a good scoring reputation for Chambishi and Power Dynamos.
While at Chambishi, he registered a total of 9 goals while he departed Power Dynamos with 19 goals, including winning the Zambian Super League title with the Kitwe giants. He won the 2022/23 top scorers award with 18 goals, including the Footballer of the Year.
