Two coaches have been sacked, while another has been suspended in Malawi just a week after the first round of the country’s local league came to an end.
Yesterday alone, two clubs announced that they had parted ways with their head coaches after failing to achieve their set targets.
Ekhaya FC were the first club to announce the sacking of head coach Enos Chatama, just days after he guided the club to Airtel Top 8 glory by beating Mighty Wanderers 2-1 in the final.
Although Chatama won the cup, his team has struggled in the league, winning only four of their 15 games. Ekhaya FC are currently 11th on the log with 18 points.
Silver Strikers also announced that they had parted ways with head coach Peter Mgangira, who helped the club win the FDH Bank Cup last season.
Silver Strikers finished the first round in third position with 29 points from 15 games.
Mgangira’s target was to win the league, but according to Silver officials, they no longer see that happening following the team’s current form.
Last week, Silver Strikers suffered a heavy 5-0 away defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, a result that surprised many people.
Meanwhile, Mighty Wanderers have also suspended coach Bob Mpinganjira following their Airtel Top 8 final defeat to Ekhaya FC.
Malawi’s league is expected to resume next month.
Bullets currently lead the table with 30 points, while Wanderers are second with 29 points, although they have played 14 games.
