Spain continued their impressive run in the 2024 European Championship, beating 2018 World Champions France 2-1 to advance to the final.
Les Bleus opened the scoring just nine minutes into the game to end their scoring drought from open play in this year’s Euros after Randal Kolo Muani put the ball behind the net from Kylian Mbappé’s cross.
But just when France thought they had it all figured out with an early goal, the youngest player to feature in the Euro semifinals, 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, delivered the equalizer in the 21st minute, netting a daring goal that curled in off the far post after he ducked past Adrien Rabiot.
Four minutes later, Spain inflicted more pain on the French as Dani Olmo stroked a shot that went in off Jules Koundé to make it 2-1. That goal proved to be the match winner.
Although France showed some signs of life, Spain was the team posing the greatest threat.
In the second half, France tried to come back into the game with Mbappé seeing his shot from a tight angle saved.
Yamal also came close to giving his team another goal while Mbappé on the other hand, blasted his late attempt wide as Spain won to secure their spot in the final.
Spain is aiming for a record-breaking fourth European Championship trophy at the Euro 2024. They previously won the tournament in 1964, 2008, and 2012.
They are the joint-most successful side in European Championship history and will now await the winner between Netherlands and England.
