Copper Queens midfielder Natasha Witika’s debut for Delta Queens in the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) ended in a 2-1 away defeat to Sunshine Queens at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

The Zambian midfielder, who was part of the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship-winning squad, joined Delta Queens from Bayelsa Queens a fortnight ago.

The NWFL ended matchday 8 on Wednesday as the defending champions, the Delta Queens, returned to action, hoping to overturn their fortunes in the ongoing season.

Witika, a NWFL winner with Bayelsa Queens, came on as a second-half substitute in the 65th minute, replacing Chidera Okenwa.

Delta Queens have now recorded 3 losses and occupy 6th position in the NWFL Group B standings with 9 points from 8 matches.

Reacting after her debut, Witika told BolaNews that it was tough.

“It was a tough match, especially since we were playing away from home, and then we were given a red card 25 minutes before the end of the match,” Witika said.

The former ZESCO Ndola Girls Football Club midfielder states that the team will work hard to get a positive result in their next match next Wednesday.

“We have put this defeat behind us now, and we will work hard to collect the maximum number of points in our next match,” she concluded.
