An official from Wanderers FC is believed to have ordered striker Christopher Jacama Kumwembe to delete a Facebook photo of him posing with the club’s cross-town rival, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach.

On Tuesday, the player met with Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa at Shoprite Super Market in Blantyre, where the photo was taken, and he was later instructed to issue a public apology.

When Kumwemba shared the photo on Facebook, fans had mixed feelings, especially since Malawi’s transfer window is still open.

Minutes later, he deleted the photo and apologized publicly.

He wrote, “I know many people are wondering after seeing the photo on social media. I want to apologise for not realising the outcome. I took it normally, not realising it would elicit mixed emotions. Please, Wanderers fans, forgive me; it will not happen again.

When reached for comment, Kumwembe told BolaNews that he had made the apology to Wanderers fans but could not.

However, BolaNews sources at Wanderers confirmed that a club official called slammed the player over the post.

“He told the player that the Bullets are our rivals and it was bad timing for him to take a photo with their head coach,” he said.

Kumwembe has been the subject of transfer speculation in the last six months.

Last year, Green Buffaloes and Zanaco FC of Zambia submitted transfer requests to Wanderers, but both bids were rejected because the club claimed the player was not for sale.
