Ntopwa Women’s Football Club is demanding MWK5 million for the transfer of Malawi Women’s National Football Team goalkeeper Mercy Sikero, BolaNews can reveal.
The goalkeeper left Ntopwa ahead of the final WAFCON matches and joined Civil Service United, a government-sponsored club based in Lilongwe.
BolaNews has gathered that Sikero had asked Ntopwa officials to allow her to move from Blantyre to Lilongwe so she could stay with her husband, a request the club had no problem with.
However, after arriving in Lilongwe, Sikero started training with Civil Service United, prompting Ntopwa owner Jomo Osman to approach the Lilongwe-based club over a transfer fee.
According to a source, the two clubs initially agreed on a MWK1.5 million transfer fee, with Civil Service United expected to make the payment in July 2026 after receiving government funding.
However, following the WAFCON, the Ntopwa owner changed his position, demanding MWK5 million for the player instead of the initially agreed MWK1.5 million.
“Civil have told him [Jomo Osman] that the maximum they can pay for Mercy is MWK2 million,” said the source.
The source added that Sikero has refused to return to Blantyre, saying she wants to settle with her husband and would prefer to play for Civil Service United.
At Civil Service United, Sikero has been offered a K470,000 salary, while Ntopwa players do not receive salaries.
Sikero is yet to sign for Civil Service United and does not have a contract with Ntopwa.
