The much-anticipated Kitwe Derby in the Zambian Super League week 31 was brought to an abrupt stop following security concerns at the Arthur Davies Stadium.

It was an evenly-matched first half which saw both teams having two scoring chances go in vain.

The match ended 0-0 in the first stanza, but in the second half, Andy Boyeli slotted home the opening goal of the match in the 77th minute.

It was the Congolese’s first Kitwe derby goal and his 18th of the season.

Soon after the goal, alleged Nkana supporters started throwing missiles at the second referee. An object was hurled at her back, which forced her to be attended to by the home team’s medical personnel.

However, when the police attempted to calm the fans, one officer appeared to have been hit in the eye.

As a result, officials called a halt to the game, resulting in a 20-minute wait as both teams went to their locker rooms.

However, calm was restored, and the game resumed, with Power scoring the game’s second goal in nine minutes.

Man of the match Joshua Mutale set up Kiloji Mwepu with a through ball following a fantastic run to add cherry on the cake and end the match 2-0.

Power now leads the Super League with 59 points. They will only need three points from their remaining three games to win the league.

The Aba Yellow are on the verge of lifting the Super League for the first time since 2011.
