Former FC MUZA head coach Lameck Banda has urged aspiring Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) presidential candidates to focus on improving the football experience in Zambia by implementing mandatory stadium upgrades.
Banda emphasized the need to modernize pitch drainage systems, highlighting that this would significantly reduce the chances of match postponements due to adverse weather conditions.
A former player for the now-defunct Nakambala Leopards, Banda believes that these upgrades are essential for ensuring the football calendar runs smoothly, without unexpected cancellations or delays.
“As we continue to strive for excellence in our beautiful game, I strongly advocate for making it mandatory for clubs to upgrade their stadia, with a particular focus on modernising pitch drainage systems,” Banda said.
“Improved drainage systems will minimise the likelihood of match postponements due to inclement weather, ensuring that our football calendar runs smoothly and without unnecessary disruptions.”

He added that upgraded stadiums provide fans with the needed comfortable experiences that help to create an exciting atmosphere, encouraging them to cheer their teams.
“Upgraded stadia will provide fans with a vastly improved experience, fostering an electric atmosphere that will encourage them to cheer on their beloved teams,” he stated.
Banda expressed his support for the current football calendar, noting that it has allowed Zambian teams to compete internationally without encountering scheduling conflicts or logistical issues.
He also pointed out that the calendar has helped maintain high-quality playing surfaces, which in turn reduces the risk of injuries for players.
“The current calendar ensures that our pitches are at their best, providing players with a safe and enjoyable playing experience. The lush green grass and soft surfaces significantly reduce the risk of injuries, which is a paramount concern for any football association,” he stated.
