Kumwembe to Leave Green Buffaloes After Loan Expiry

The Malawian striker will return to Mighty Wanderers at the end of this month after Zambian club Green Buffaloes opted not to extend his loan deal, bringing his one-season stint to an end.

Zambian Super League club Green Buffaloes will part ways with their Malawian striker Christopher ‘Jacama’ Kumwembe following the expiry of his loan deal.

Kumwembe, who plays for Mighty Wanderers in Malawi, joined Buffaloes in August last year on a one-season loan agreement. Buffaloes paid Wanderers MK30 million for the deal, which did not include a buyout option. However, Wanderers had indicated that if they decided to sell the player, Buffaloes would be given priority.

Despite this, Buffaloes have chosen not to extend his contract, meaning Kumwembe will return to Malawi at the end of this month.

The player confirmed his departure in a phone interview with BolaNews. “Yes, I will be returning to my club, Wanderers. My loan deal has come to an end, so I will be returning home.

“If all goes well, I might sign to other clubs who are interested but you will get that at an appropriate time,” he said.

Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi also confirmed Kumwembe’s return.

“So far we do not have new offers, so he will be joining us. But if any team is interested, they should talk to us and we can talk over it,” he said.

Kumwembe’s stint in Zambia did not meet expectations, as he managed to score just one goal. His last appearance in the starting eleven was on April 2, when Buffaloes faced Nkwazi FC.

Buffaloes paid the Malawi club an amount of MWK30 million (around ZWK450,496) for the loan deal, and he was earning around MK1.7 million (ZWK25,545) per month.
