After losing points via a boardroom decision for fielding unregistered players against Konkola Blades in a Week one fixture, Zesco United responded with a convincing 3 nil win over visiting Mutondo Stars at Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Saturday.

The victory was Tenant Chilumba’s first win since taking over from George Lwandamina, who left the club at the start of last season.

“We still need to work on finishing,” Chilumba said after the match. “It’s a big win for the team, and everyone is motivated, but we must take more of our chances.”

Zesco had opened their league campaign with a goalless draw against Konkola Blades, where they created numerous opportunities but failed to convert. Chilumba revealed that the week’s training had focused heavily on correcting that flaw.

“Going back to the drawing board, we worked on finishing. Today we created five or six chances and scored three, which is a big credit to the team. Going forward, I believe we can score even more than four,” he added.

Chilumba admitted he braced himself for a tough reception from fans at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

“Today we expected hostile fans, but I’m happy with the support. We’ll keep encouraging the boys to push forward,” he said.

Despite the win, Chilumba insists sharper finishing will be key to their campaign.
