Senegal suffered a 3-2 defeat to Norway, with Erling Haaland netting a brace to send his side to the knockout stage.
Marcus Pedersen gave Norway a first-half lead before Haaland struck twice after the break. Senegal responded through an Ismaila Sarr brace but were unable to complete a late comeback despite creating numerous chances.
The victory means Norway advances to the knockout stage and will face France in their final group match to determine the group winners. Haaland’s double took his tournament tally to four goals, level with Kylian Mbappé and one behind Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.
Senegal, meanwhile, must beat Iraq in their final group game and hope results elsewhere favour them in the race to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
Algeria record first win
Algeria came from behind to defeat Jordan 2-1 and boost their chances of progressing from Group J at the FIFA World Cup.
Jordan took the lead through Nizar Al Rashdan in the 36th minute, but Algeria dominated the second half and turned the game around with goals from substitute Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri.
The victory ended Algeria’s long-standing record of never winning a World Cup match after conceding first and leaves them in a strong position heading into their final group game.
The defeat confirmed Jordan’s elimination from the tournament ahead of their clash with group winners Argentina.
