Green Eagles head coach Alex Namazaba is hopeful his strikers will pick up where Ivorian striker Freddy Michael left off in terms of scoring goals for the team.
The Zambia National Service-sponsored side was thumped 4-0 by Power Dynamos in a week-21 match played on Sunday at Choma’s Independence Stadium.
Austin Muwowo scored a brace, with Andy Boyeli and Linos Makwaza netting the other goals for Power Dynamos.
Following Michael’s departure to Simba SC in January, Eagles signed Congolese striker Sylva Nsana Tshitenge from AC Rangers and brought back Tapson Kaseba from Kabwe Warriors as a replacement but both couldn’t find the back of the net.
Michael left the Zambia as the top scorer with 14 goals. He also left Eagles in the top five in the league standings.
Speaking to journalists after Sunday’s match, Namazaba believes Michael’s replacements will deliver.
“They are the boys that we are now trying to push [after Michael’s departure],” he said. “I think you know our top scorer left so we are trying to push them so that they can start scoring. In today’s [Sunday] game, a few had chances, but they didn’t score.
Following Sunday’s humiliating defeat, Eagles dropped to sixth place in the league standings with 32 points.
They will face Muza FC next Saturday in Week 22 of the Super League.
