Malawi National Football Team head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has set new rules to guide the camp and prevent misconduct ahead of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against South Sudan and Angola next week.
Pasuwa’s decision comes against the backdrop of reports that some players sneaked out of camp while the team was participating in the Mukuru Four Nations tournament in Francistown, Botswana.
During the tournament, which also involved Zambia, Zimbabwe and hosts Botswana on March 28, some players reportedly went out drinking, while others allegedly brought women into camp, a development that disappointed officials.
Pasuwa said although he would not want to comment publicly on the incident, changes had been made to protect the camp and ensure the players remain focused on delivering results.
“These regulations apply to all players,” Pasuwa stated.
He explained: “Discipline is paramount at the national team [for we] represent [the nation] more than ourselves. We have set rules. I am clear on the standard, punctuality, commitment in training, respect for teammates and staff, general conduct on and off the pitch.”
His 31-member squad will go into camp this week. The Flames will host South Sudan on September 25 before travelling to Angola 10 days later for their second Group B fixture.
The squad includes 19 foreign-based players.
