Interim Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina on Monday unveiled his squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, including in-form Orlando Pirates forward Gamphani Lungu, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Lungu picked up the injury during Pirates’ 4-0 victory over Kruger United in the South African Premier Soccer League.
The 27-year-old has impressed since joining Pirates at the start of the season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in seven appearances.

Lungu took to social media to express his frustration following the setback.
“I’m devastated to be sidelined, but my focus now shifts completely to healing. I’m going to pour everything into my recovery so I can get back out there, fully fit, and give you the performances you truly deserve. Thank you for always believing in us,” Lungu wrote on Facebook.
Given his impressive form, Lungu has been recalled by Lwandamina, who justified his decision to BolaNews despite the player’s injury.
“He was given ten days to recover, and I believe he will play in the match against Togo. So yes, he will be part of the team and will most likely be available to play against Togo,” Lwandamina exclusively told BolaNews.
Zambia will begin their qualifying campaign away to Algeria on September 25 before hosting Togo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on September 29.
