Super Falcons, centre back Ashleigh Plumptre, is optimistic about their ability to perform well against Cameroon in the return leg.
Cameroon and Nigeria played out to a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg of the 2024 Paris Olympics third round qualifier in Douala on Friday night.
In a highly contested match, both teams created chances but failed to convert them and ended up settling for a point each.
The eleven-time African champions, who last competed in the competition in 2004, are eager to try to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
However, speaking to the media after the match, Plumptre believes the team is ready to fight till the end.
“Game by Game obviously the aim is to qualify for the Olympics we haven’t been to the Olympics I don’t know how long. We don’t look past the games we have right now obviously there is more qualifying games, but the focus now is Cameroon we respect them they put up a good performance to get a draw,”
“We will apply ourselves and try and win all the time in the next game, hopefully we get a win so that we go onto the next round but ultimately it’s just game by game,” said Plumptre.
The 25-year-old center back was part of the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup squad and featured in all four games helping Nigeria keep a clean sheet and reaching the round of 16.
Plumptre will play a key role in helping the team secure qualification to the competition.
