The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has disclosed that it will adjust the Copper Queens’ winning bonuses upwards from US$3,000.

The Copper Queens are in camp preparing for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. They are also set to play Tanzania on Sunday in an international friendly match at the Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Bruce Mwape is currently drilling 35 players that will be going to Germany for the pre-World Cup international camp.

Meanwhile, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga revealed when he addressed the players at Nkoloma stadium this week, that the association will soon disclose the revised winning bonus.

“Also, be assured that FAZ will adjust upwards the winning bonus,” Kamanga said.

The revelation by the FAZ president will serve as extra motivation for the already revealed player bonuses by FIFA.

FIFA recently revealed bonuses for the 2023 Women’s World Cup which guarantees at least not less than K600,000 in the group stage for every player.

Before departure for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWFCON), Kamanga announced that the Copper Queens’ winning bonuses were raised to US$3,000 for a win in the group stages.

The win-bonus hike was extended to all stages of the tournament. The quarterfinal was pegged at US$3,500, the semi-final at US$4,000, and a win in the final at US$5,000.

The Copper Queens finished third at the WAFCON after beating Nigeria 1-nil. They lost to eventual winners South Africa in the semifinal 1-0.

With the stakes high at the global showpiece, it is expected that the bonuses will be raised.

How much will the new winning bonuses for the Copper Queens be?

BolaNews has learned that the winning bonus in the group stages is likely to be pegged at US$5,000.

This proposed increase to US$5,000 from US$3,000 will see the Copper Queens getting winning bonuses equivalent to that of the Chipolopolo.

“As the team was going for the WAFCON, the winning bonus was US$3,000 in the group stages with a maximum of US$5,000 for reaching the final,” a source has stated. “But this time around, it has been proposed that the team will get US$5,000 in the World Cup group stage. This is what the Chipolopolo get for a win.”

In March this year, Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu also revealed that the Government had pegged the winning bonus for the Chipolopolo boys at US$5,000.

The decision was made to motivate the players in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign.
