Football coach Franklyn Malambo has hailed the emergence of a new generation of Zambian coaches following a series of impressive performances in the domestic game, describing their achievements as a sign of growing trust in local technical talent.

Malambo’s remarks come in the wake of recent success stories, including Roan United head coach Satchmo Chakawa, who guided the club to promotion to the MTN Super League, with Chirundu United coach Caston Chilekwa also on the verge of achieving a historic first-ever promotion for his team. At the same time, Zimiseleni Moyo has ensured Jumulo FC’s survival in the league.

“It’s wonderful to see a new crop of coaches deliver. They send a strong message that they are trustworthy and that there is a potential shift,” Malambo said.

He added that the progress of young coaches reflects a positive trend in Zambian football, where clubs are increasingly placing faith in emerging tacticians to lead their teams.

Malambo also singled out the work being done at Mufulira Wanderers by Lameck Banda and Bupe Chewe, noting that the duo has exceeded expectations in their first season at one of the country’s most historic clubs.

“We cannot ignore what Lameck Banda and Bupe Chewe are doing at Mufulira Wanderers. The top four are in sight, and for it being their first season at one of the biggest teams in Zambia, that’s massive,” he said.

Keep trusting in your philosophies– Malambo

Offering advice to the rising coaches, Malambo urged them to remain grounded while continuing to develop their craft.

“Keep trusting in your philosophies, but adapt when necessary. Remember that success is not once-off—you’ve set the bar high, and the same expectations will be used to judge you in future,” he said.

“Stay humble but be brave—bold enough to make decisions and ask for what you believe will help you succeed. Be wary of detractors, and remember you are managing not just players, but stakeholders as well.”

He wished the coaches continued success as they push to consolidate their achievements and prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.
