Mbesuma Sends Message to Boyhood Club Roan United After Super League Promotion

The former striker has called on the club to strengthen its structures to avoid an immediate return to the National League after sealing a 12-year comeback to the MTN Super League.

Former Roan United striker Collins Mbesuma has challenged the club’s executive committee to implement a long-term plan to help the team avoid relegation after earning promotion back to the MTN Super League.

Stylish Roan United secured promotion to the Super League for the first time in 12 years since their relegation to the National League.

Roan United sealed promotion with a game to spare following a dominant 5-1 victory over Forest Rangers at Kafubu Stadium.

Since the start of the season, Roan United have been in impressive form and currently occupy a place in the top four of the league standings.

After spending 12 years away from the elite league, the 1962 league champions will now be hoping to establish itself and avoid another drop.

Mbesuma, who played for Roan United during the 2003/04 season before moving to Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, praised the club for returning to the top flight.

“I am happy to see Roan United gain promotion after a long time. It was everybody’s wish; even here, people used to ask me, ‘Where is your team?’ I congratulate management, the technical bench, and the players for the combined effort and hard work,” he said.

Mbesuma does not want to see Roan getting relegated again next season.

“Going forward, let’s find a way to ensure whatever we are going to do should be long-term, not short-term. Most teams come, but the following year they get demoted. We need to find a long-term plan so that Roan United doesn’t get back to Division One.”

With one game remaining in the ZPL National League, Roan is looking to win the league with a final victory.
