Mansa-based ZPL National Division side Mathkat United Football Club has appealed for sponsorship and financial support, saying gate takings are insufficient to meet the demands of competing in Zambia’s second-tier league.
The club, which is representing Luapula Province in the National Division for the first time, says it continues to face financial challenges as it seeks to establish itself at the higher level of competition.
Mathkat United competes in the Northern Zone of the Transitional League and currently sits ninth after recording two defeats and a draw in its opening three matches.
The club is expected to make trips to the Copperbelt, Central and North-Western provinces during the season, adding to its operational demands.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Mathkat United appealed to individuals, companies, organisations, businesses and football lovers to partner with the club and support its ambitions.
Mathkat United explained that the costs of competing in the National Division extend beyond match-day expenses, citing transport, accommodation, meals, medical attention, training equipment and other operational requirements.
It said gate collections alone could not realistically cover these costs, despite appreciating supporters who pay to watch the team’s matches.
“We also wish to address the notion that gate takings alone should be enough to sustain the club. While we appreciate every supporter who pays to watch our matches, the reality is that gate collections cannot meet the many financial demands of competing at this level,” it said.
“Football requires transport, accommodation, meals, medical attention, training equipment, match-day preparations and other operational expenses. These responsibilities go far beyond what we can realistically raise through ticket sales alone.”
“We cannot build a competitive football team on passion alone; passion needs partnership, commitment and resources to grow,” the club stated.
